Walking the Dogs

Posted on by .

Not having a yard, I need to walk the dogs very regularly. Some days are tame, some days the dog park, not many days. Today’s walk is a little more to my liking. Actually, today was a spectacular walk!

There may be many touristy places to hike, like the Himalaya, but when you are willing to go off the well beaten path, you may find something within your own backyard that will rival any postcard.

Maybe this looks in the middle of nowhere, but when you turn around, you find a posh neighborhood on the Kern River, west of Hart Park. Beyond that you find “Little Iraq”, seemingly endless oil wells. My residence is just a few miles west, left of the picture.

Even if it hard to get that perfect picture for social media, there is not a National Park where you get to see the beauty of your dogs running the cliffs, free.

Looking down at feet, I find a fossil of some sort of plant. I think it is a fossil at least.

I love watching Oliver and Fender explore so much. Oliver is looking back to make sure he is being a good boy and I don’t need anything. I zoomed and cropped so you can see the doggy cuteness, best as my camera will allow.

And the dogs found…

Turn around, still in Bakersfield. It is like being teleported from reality to happiness. It feels so weird.

We are dropping down into the draw, that was used as a trail by, what must be, some pretty impressive dirt bikes and riders. Beyond my capabilities on the Goldwing.

At the bottom of the draw we find an owl pellet, large.

There is a paint bucket, I think, wedged into this crevice.

Fender cuteness.

Tarantula. I think Fender may have tried mouthing it.

I thought I took more pictures of the inside of this tiny cave, but I guess not? I took pictures of the right side, but somehow I didn’t get any pictures of the left side. I will have to back to try again. I also think I will stash some silly treasure in there.

My motorcycle may look far away, but it was a pretty short walk as the ravens fly (and harass golden eagles).

For as much as I struggle with the humanity of Bakersfield, the geology does make for a decent reward. Not a bad place to go for a short walk.

Cuutoo’s First Christmas- Part 1

Abootsie’s first clutch have grown. Cuutoo was the one I decided to keep, and she is getting ready for her first Christmas.

Her tree really isn’t that much, but it fit on the back of my motorcycle. I like small trees, but I wonder if maybe this was a little too small.

Cuutoo contemplates how it is such a perfect size for her, and wonders how she would flock it.

Ms. Prince Camping, Finally

Posted on by .

I have been wanting to take my motorcycle camping for, well, since I got her reliably running.

Due to a lack of progress with Ol’ Duste, lack of desire for a rental, and the excuse of the baby quail not ready for a road, the camping opportunity finally arose with the weekend’s Flyball tournament in Madera, CA.

It went well. After the final air pressure check, and the rear valve stem completely failing to hold in air. I pulled a valve stem out of a truck tire conveniently raised in the air for the moment, placed it into the rear tire of the motorcycle, pumped up the tire, and that was the end of any issues for the trip.

It was a lot of fun. Oliver and Fender rocked the tournament and I gained confidence in the camping ability on Ms. Prince. I am very lucky to have my friends Arionna and Aaron whom were able to care for my birds making this trip possible, thank you my buddies.
